Threshold is looking for an energetic and experienced Sous Chef to work closely with Executive Chef Thom Chun and Managing Partner Cam Shaw at our first location. The ideal candidate is ambitious, creative, motivated to provide quality food and service, and comfortable acting in a leadership position. We hope to find a candidate looking to take the next step in their career, and who we can invest in in return. The right candidate is excited to already live in or relocate to the Catskills and looks forward to becoming a member of a small, tight-knit community with a growing culinary scene. Chef Thom began his culinary training in Chicago before returning to California, working with Chef Matthew Kirkley at COI (SF) and Chef Timothy Hollingsworth at Otium (LA). Once in New York City he worked under John Fraser at The Loyal and Michelin-starred Nix, finishing his time as chef de cuisine of Michelin-starred Korean restaurant Oiji Mi. Korean cuisine and culture has always been at the heart of Chef Thom’s cooking and with Threshold he looks forward to sharing both traditional and innovative Korean dishes with the Catskills. POSITION SUMMARY The Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef in all kitchen operations. This includes food production, coaching and training, ordering & inventory, maintaining department of health standards and compliance with all regulations, as well as regular cleaning and maintenance of the space and equipment. The Sous Chef will have direct interactions with the farms and farmers that we work with, as well as to our backyard gardens which will supply fresh herbs and greens for the menu. Due to the small size and seasonal nature of the business, the sous chef should expect to help with tasks typically performed by a porter or dishwasher during the slower winter months. Threshold engages in quarterly 360° performance reviews and practices Open Book Management, giving all employees the opportunity to have direct input into their working environment and an understanding of the restaurant’s financials. The sous chef will have direct exposure to the P&L and develop an understanding of the financial and operational sides of the business. If you have these qualities, we want to meet you: Great passion for people and hospitality Exceptional communication skills Leadership skills Strong work ethic Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills Ability to multitask & problem solve Entrepreneurial & results driven Thrives in a fast-paced environment Ability to work full time evenings Wednesday through Sunday Professional or personal experience with Korean cuisine is preferred but not required 2+ years of experience in professional kitchens Sous chef experience is preferred but not required COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Compensation: $60k salary $2k Relocation Bonus if moving from outside Sullivan or Delaware counties. 40 hours of accrued sick time annually 5 weeks PTO structured as follows: 2 weeks to be taken the first two weeks of April (2025 - 3/31-4/13) 1 week to be taken the week of Thanksgiving (2025 - 11/24-11/30) 1 week to be taken the week of Christmas (2025 - 12/22-12/28) 1 week to be taken with scheduling approval at the employee’s discretion, accrued at a rate of .77 hours per pay period.
